Whale Watching – by foot!

One of Sydney's Top Whale Watching Locations!

Whale Watching – by foot!
Whale Watching – by foot!

Description

The coastline of the Royal National Park is prime whale watching territory.

There are a choice of good look out points including Port Hacking Point (along the Jibbon Loop Trail), The Balconies (about 15 mins easy walk from Bundeena township) and then the entire stretch of rock platforms stretching between Bundeena and Wattamolla.

Whales can be spotted migrating north towards the Coral Sea from around April/May until August and then later in the year they return southward around October to December.

We suggest planning to spot whales during their migration northwards as they tend to travel closer to the shore and don't seem to be in such a rush as when they do their migration later in the year.

The walk southward from Bundeena to Wattamolla (10 km 3 hours) is a great option for a whale spotting walking adventure. A shuttle service runs daily from Wattamolla to Bundeena (needs to be booked in advance via Bundeena Kayaks http://www.bundeenakayaks.com.au/shuttle-bus/)
