Welcome to Paradise!

Bundeena is a small, coastal suburb nestled adjacent to the Royal National Park in southern Sydney. Bordered by pristine Port Hacking waterway, stunning stretches of sandy beaches and the beautiful Royal National Park, this area truly is a nature lover’s paradise. Access to Bundeena is either by private vehicle or by ferry from Cronulla (20 minute trip in quaint timber ferry).

There are several places to stay in the area including 5 star B&B accommodation, beach houses, bush cabins and Bonnie Vale Campground.

A small shopping strip (just near the ferry wharf) has several cafes, a takeaway, post office, chemist, real estate, gift shops, physio and GP.  There are 2 local clubs – the Bundeena Community Services Club which overlooks the water and the Bowling Club. Both clubs serve lunch and dinner.

Bundeena is about 1 hour drive from the centre of Sydney or a 20 minute ferry ride from Cronulla.

Fun Things to Do in Bundeena

  1. Enjoy the one-way coastal walk from Bundeena to Wattamolla (Wedding Cake Rock and Marley Beaches are along the way – try booking an Uber for return trip) – plan for about 4 hours
  2. Walk the Jibbon Loop and check out the Aboriginal Rock Carvings
  3. Hire a kayak or paddle board at Bundeena Kayaks or book in for a guided kayak tour (run daily)
  4. Bike ride along the Marley fire service trail (bumpy but fun!)
  5. Walk the Art Trail (1st Sunday each month) www.arttrail.com.au
  6. Camp at the Bonnie Vale picnic grounds
  7. Go fishing at any of the local beaches or rocky points
  8. Have a picnic at the Bonnie Vale picnic grounds
  9.  Paddle by kayak or paddle board to Cabbage Tree Basin (need to plan this trip around the tides – gear hire available from Bundeena Kayaks)
  10. Explore the sandflats out the front of Maianbar (need to go at low tide) and have a coffee afterwards at Maianbar Cafe

Things to Do

Bundeena and surrounding areas truly are a nature lover’s paradise and a Sydney destination for relaxation and enjoying the serenity of nature. Bordered by the glorious Royal National Park, stunning beaches and the splendid Port Hacking waterway, there are oodles of outdoor pursuits for you to indulge in! 

The crew at Bundeena Kayaks runs daily guided tours and has kayaks and stand up paddle boards available for hire 7 days most year around (check their site for current operating times). They are based in the beautiful Bonnie Vale picnic grounds right on the waterfront!  

You will be totally spoilt with choice with the range of bush walking adventures from coastal cliff top walks, to seclude freshwater swimming holes and long stretches of pristine sandy beaches!

Accommodation

Bundeena is the perfect relaxation destination for a city getaway for Sydney-siders or visitors to Australia. Just under 1 hour drive from the centre of Sydney or about 1.5 hours via public transport (train and ferry) your haven of serenity awaits! Bordered by the Royal National Parks, gorgeous and uncrowded beaches and the pristine Port Hacking waterway, there are plenty of activities to enjoy.

There are literally 100’s of great places to stay in Bundeena, including a gorgeous beachfront camp ground (Bonnie Vale), 5 star luxury Bed and Breakfast, a lovely heritage stone house (Simpson House), beach and bush front houses and quirky backyard shacks. Prices range from around $80-1000 per night and around $25 pp for camping.
